  2. This movie looks very interesting I can’t wait until we are done with the book so that we can finally see how there are differences or is it dead on the same. To be honest I hope the movie is better because I love movies about books more than actually reading the books themselves. So in my opinion, this movie is going to be one of the best field trips we have had in a long time. I just wonder if there is going to be as much gruesomeness as the book but just hoping.

    1. Not everyone enjoys fiction books. However, after reading your response, it sounds as if it is possible that the movie may not live up to the "gruesomeness" you imagined as you read the book. This is why I personally enjoy books more than their movie counterparts.

Take for instance, Stephen King. He is known for his horror fiction, many of which have been made into movies. I was so disappointed after reading his terrifying book The Stand and watching the telivision mini-series' take on it. The TV series was not nearly as frightening as what I had imagined when I read the book.

I know that I may not have convinced you that the book is often better than the movie, but consider the following questions:

      1) How many books have you read that have been made into a movie?
      2) After reading the book, have you ever watched the movie version and were disappointed at the director's interpretation?
      3) Everyone I know is afraid of something. For instance, I suffer from severe arachnophobia. I have actually almost gotten into a car accident when I saw a spider the size of my pinky nail crawl up my driver's side window. Of course, my imagination gave me an unrealistic intepretation of this critter, believing that the spider was some large, hairy bloodsucker with massive fangs. Like most fears, my fear is irrational. What frightens you the most? Do you think a director's interpration of what frightens you would be as terrifying as your own imagination?
