Entertainment Media

The Hunger Games is broadcast and required for all the districts of Panem to see. Many aspects of the Hunger Games are controlled by the Gamemakers. What comparisons can you make between today's reality TV and the Hunger Games?

  1. The Hunger Games and reality T.V. are both alike because the gamemakers and the reality T.V. producers control how things go. For example, in the Hunger Games, the gamemakers occasionally would find ways to force the tributes to get near each other and fight such as during, “The Feast,” where they invite the tributes to a certain place to eat food, although that trick became obvious and predictable to the public and future tributes. The producers will sometimes make them do certain things to cause drama or something they will think is entertaining. Both can be real and fake at the same time.

    1. Yes, Noah, and I would also like to add how the tributes themselves played up to the camera like reality TV stars. Remember how Katniss shot an arrow into the apple in the pig's mouth during the Gamemakers feast. She probably did so initially because Katniss was angry that the Gamemakers were not paying attention to her, but she may have done so to impress them, thereby ensuring a higher ranking against the other tributes and, ultimately, bettering her chances in the games.

  2. The people in district 12 are experiencing the worst because they are the coal mining district and they are only given little food and supplies. Katniss breaks the law by going under the fence and hunting game to trade for extra food. Every time she does this she risks her life by going hunting. District 12 is seen as the failing district because it doesn’t make/produce luxury items. Another example is that the game makers add things in to the arena just like a producer add things into the set. In the hunger games the citizens of panem are required to watch them on TV or in the town square, but in reality you have a choice if you do or don’t want to watch them. It also effects family because if one of your loved one are pick they might die or be killed…

    1. After learning about District 11, we find that many of the districts suffer. Not just 12. Think about Rue's stories of public whippings; especially the cruel story about the slow boy that they killed. I really think Katniss finally realized that there is more out there. Soem good, some bad. However, no one really knows because they do not allow communication or travel among districts.

  3. The hunger games an reality TV is kinda the same accept, for one the hunger games is controlled by the game makers an reality TV is controlled by producers. Also people don’t wanna be on the hunger games but people wanna be on reality TV. People die in real life in the hunger games but on reality TV they act like they died. But they both get fixed up when they get on the cameras. But there alike because there is someone who controls it all. Reality TV and the hunger games have a lot in common.

  4. A comparison between the Hunger Games and reality TV is the “gamemakers” are responsible for setting up the games and planning it. Such as the obstacles the players are to go through. Another thing, players are allowed to make alliances with their fellow team-mates. Plus, no one is there to guide them throughout the games. They have to pursue everything they encounter on their own.

  5. The Hunger Games, people die only one comes out and lives, or it could be two from the same district. If your name is drawn out, you have no choice but to participate. It’s kill or be killed. But that’s not like reality tv, you’re not forced to participate in it. Hunger games are worked by the Game Makers and reality tv is worked by producers and the director. The same thing about both is everything is filmed. You’re never off camera. Both are very entertaining to the viewers.

  6. The comparisons of the hunger games and reality TV are, in some ways, alike. Such as how the viewers, many watch these but only in Panem are they forced to watch them. Another thing that is similar are these shows can ruin lives, but in our world or reality TV is reputation while in Panem “real” people’s lives are ruined like family members and friends. On the other hand there is glory from both, such as in the hunger games the winners who come home and are worshiped and like in our reality TV make the person very wealthy.

  7. many ways of acting can be contralling or deming like useing fear or power the same way in media they may use the power aspect to control them to do somthing they whant them to do somthing for them or useing fear to conrol people that they dont what any thing to do with.there are many ways that seem crul to get people to do what you whant them to do or seem nice or good but when yo find out it is horible for what you do.

  8. The hunger games and reality TV have a lot of similarities. They both ruin lives by people dying and of their reputation. They both pick groups/sides to go with. Some are against each other. Beauty is a big part= in hunger games- they dress them up before the games begin. Reality TV- there all about how they look. Hunger games- they force them to go into the game, they have no choice (amusement of the capitol). In reality TV- they have a choice to be in an activity (volunteer) (amusement of whomever wants to watch).

    1. Wow. Very insightful, Shelby. When you mentioned the part of them ruining their reputations, I really thought about it. You are right. The tributes that live will have to go back home and face public ridicule, possibly, for the way they acted on T.V. I am certain it is probably true for reality T.V stars as well.

    1. The comparisons that I could make between reality TV and the Hunger Games are in some way they are to be amusing, the hunger games gives the capital amusement by seeing people kill eachother, die or starvation or thirst. And reality TV just being amusing to whoever may want to watch it. Another way could be when in the hunger games they ruin the tributes family live and even their own lives. While in reality TV causing reputation.

  10. A comparison between todays reality TV and the Hunger Games is both of them can ruin your life. On reality TV you could do something and others hate you for it and then have people gossiping about you. In the Hunger Games you can be killed. Another would be that both of the people in the Hunger games and on reality TV are constantly recorded and shown on televison.

  11. The comparisons of the hunger games and reality TV are the hunger games ruin some people’s life and reality TV ruin reputations. Another one is in Panem you are required to watch the hunger games and in reality TV you don’t have to watch it. Another one is you have to be in the hunger games if your names get drawn in less someone volunteer and in reality TV you can choose if you want to be in it. Another one is that in the hunger games when you win you become wealthy and in reality TV you sometimes do/wealthy/famous.

  12. The comparisons I can make between reality TV and the hunger games is they people watch the hunger games. It amuses them to see people fight to the death. With reality TV today we are not made to watch the reality TV. It is our choice to watch if it amuses us or if we like it. Another comparison is the hunger games will pick who participate in the game. In reality TV it is kind of the same but you write something to the producers about why he should have you in reality TV, but at times you can volunteer to be on reality TV.

  13. The Hunger Games and today’s reality TV are very much alike. If you have read the Hunger Games you know how controlling and cruel the country of Panem is. Who would want to live like that? Not me! Well now look at reality TV both is chose to participate but in Panem you are forced to participate. Reality TV you can decide if you want the job or not. Also both can ruin someone’s life but once again in different ways like the hunger games the participants life’s can be ruined by death but for the people on TV it would be their reputation although these things are done in different ways in the end they are both causing the same problems or issues. The TV show “America’s Next Top Model” is a good example of a reality TV show that is like the hunger games because in both cases only one person will be the last one standing although n “America’s Next Top Model” the participants do not die like in the hunger games they just get sent home. In ways the hunger games and reality TV are different but that is just the different outcomes the ways they are similar outweigh the things that are different.

  14. The Hunger Games and Reality TV have a lot of similarities. The Hunger Games is produced for many reasons but, so is Reality TV. They both are mostly for the entertainment of others. The participants are always chosen for Reality TV they are chosen by the producers for the hunger games they are drawing two from each district. The people that are chosen has to participate they don’t have a choice. The participants in the hunger games and Reality TV are usually humiliated. But there is also differences such as, the hunger games is produced by the game makers and reality T.V is produced by producers.

  15. The comparison of the Hunger Games and reality TV are that they both are televised and some examples from the book and TV is that in the Hunger Games they are forced to play the game because their name was drawn. In reality TV they audition or choose whether they want to be in the show unless the producers don’t pick them. Another comparison is that when the Hunger Games went to the Capitol they are worried about the way you look they always have to look pretty in the Capitol, in reality TV there are some shows that are all about beauty such as Americas Next Top Model or Toddlers in Tiaras. Also another way they are compared is that they can either become famous or wealthy. They can become wealthy in the Hunger Games because when it is over and whoever wins they will get to live in the part of their town where the capitol made it for the victors. Reality TV you just get noticed if you go back to where you lived before and everywhere else you go.

  16. The comparisons I can make between today's reality TV and the Hunger Games are... they both dont have a brake from the camares becuase in the reality TV show Jersey Shore is all ways on the air.. and so is the Hungar Games because they are both for entertainment... for example the Hungar Games entertainment would be from all the trubites killing one another for the amusement of the capital.. and the reality TV entertainment would be whomever would want to watch their show.... those are the comparison I made from today's reality TV and the Hunger Games?

Reality TV and the Hunger Games are similar but different in many ways. Both in Reality TV and in the Hunger Games, people get amusement from watching both. In the Hunger Games, the Capitol gets amusement from watching the tributes fight and kill each other, which they force all of Panem to watch from their District. In Reality TV, people get to choose if they will watch it or not, meaning they are not forced to watch it, like in Panem. People who watch Reality TV get amusement from watching it, also, because it can entertain them. Another way the Hunger Games and Reality TV are similar is how both ruin lives. In the Hunger Games, people lose their lives, while in reality TV, their reputations are ruined. Another example is how people are both chosen to be a part of the Hunger Games and Reality TV, being how producers pick from the people who volunteered to be on the show, while the tributes are picked and forced to be a part of the Hunger Games. This causes both Reality TV and the Hunger Games to be similar, since both give amusement to the people who watch the Hunger Games and Reality TV and ruin the tributes/actors lives.
