Government Control: Inside North Korea

After watching the documentary Inside North Korea, what comparisons can you make between the North Korean government and the Capitol of Panem in the Hunger Games?

  1. They both control almost everything that happens; in this perspective North Korea (N.K. for short) will be the districts. The districts and N.K. are both very underprivileged, they get very little technology and resources from the outside world and are closed off from the rest of the world, just like Panem, for example, there is never any internet and they never get to use cell phones or any other devices. They also have to work for and order Kim Jhong IL and the capitol, Kim Jhong is praised and feared like he is a god by the people of his country, and the Districts mostly just fear the capitol because of what they can do. So as you can see, they are both very scary leaders and control everything, they are also very similar. I personally wonder if the author based Panem and the capitol off N.K.

    1. I think the limited technology is key. Think about what is happening in Egypt. Communication is power.

  4. The comparisons between North Korea and the capitol in Panem are closely related the governments in the capitol just like North Korea with restrictions as in television and where the people of that place can travel, as in both have an electric wired fence that both use to keep people inside the countries. Another, punishment is another thing in both places where if you dare to even spread rumors about either one of them and how they run things you will have severe punishments like being killed, or having something done to them. These two places one real and one fiction is very much alike in many ways.

  5. The difference between North Korea and the Capitol of Panem is North Korea you would have to praise the king in the pictures you have of them. Capitol of Panem you don’t have pictures you have to praise to. Some same stuff is you can’t leave where you supposed to be. Another one is you don’t have freedom of speech. Another one is you have limited food and resources. The last reason is you can’t talk bad about the government or some punishment will happen.

  7. Some of the comparisons I have found between the documentaries “inside north Korea” and “the hunger games” is they both have a very controlling government, for example there are very limited times the people of these places can use electricity. Also there is an electric fence that you cannot get out of because the fence is so powerful that it will kill you if you try to cross it. In both places if you talk badly about the government there are consequences to face. In “the hunger games” there are 12 districts to where in 22 or more concentration camps. There is one major difference between the 2 though for example in” the hunger games” they have people or tributes fight to the death for there entertainment also to show that the capital is in charge and can do what they want .

  9. The comparisons I can make are they both afraid of speaking out. They can’t say anything about their leaders or the consequences will be dyer. The worst they will do in North Korea is they will kill them by shooting them in the head. Now Panem on the other hand is similar but they would publically execute them in front of everyone in the district and their loved ones. The capitol is basically saying that "you don’t rebel against us or we will kill you!"

  10. The North Korean government and the Capitol of Panem are alike in many ways. Some comparisons I can make about them are that they are both afraid of speaking out, they can’t say anything about the government or the capitol. If they are talking about there so called “ Leaders” then there will be consequences even some that are dyer/violent. In North Korea if you talk about the government they will shoot you in the head, on the other hand, Panem will shoot you in front of everyone! And make the event publically. So you can’t “rebel” in the capitol or north Korea , if you rebel they will basically kill you.

The North Korean Government and the Capitol of Panem have many similarities. One being how both areas are surrounded by a electric fence. If the Districts, or the people of North Korea try to cross this fence, they will most likely die while trying to pass. In North Korea and Panem, if you speak badly about the Capitol or the leader of North Korea, you will be killed on the spot, or will have to face horrible consequences. They will also punish the people of these areas if they talk badly about how the government is ran. This shows how neither area has freedom of speech. North Korea and Panem also can't leave their district/country, since neither government allows them to leave that certain place. If they do try to leave, they will, once again, be punished for their actions.
